First you need to register for Google AdWords, so you can use their keyword tool - http://adwords.google.com. When you have registered, go to the Keyword Tool:
http://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordTool
Using this tool, you can enter a keyword (for example college), and the tool will list all related keywords and search volume: more green the value, more searched it is. You can click on the link, “month Search Volume”, to sort keywords by popularity. Now you can select “Choose data to display:” - Cost and Ad Position Estimate. Now it asks you how much are you willing to bid for keyword. If you enter, for example, 1€, the tool will show you in which position your ad will most probably appear (this tool thinks you are advertiser, not publisher). Now look at the “Estimated Ad Position” field, and search for those keywords which show 4-6 or greater position. This means that for this keyword, there is stiff advertiser competition. So, advertiser will have to pay more to get in the first three positions. This is most probably your high paid keyword. In our example, those are the keywords “art colleges” and “find a college”. But this list is now sorted by search popularity. Keywords in higher position are more searched, so our winner is “art colleges”. But the work is not over. Now you need to check your competition. Go to www.google.com, and enter your keyword and search. Open first ten search results, and examine those sites. Check if they are really quality sites with a lot of backlinks, if their domain is quite old, and check everything else you can think of. If there are only 3 or less quality sites, then you have chance to appear high in Google results. But if there is 10 or more high quality sites, then it is better to find another keyword. |
